Last week we talked about the feather -- that quiet nudge that already knows the direction before the rest of you does. A lot of you probably know exactly what yours is. You have been circling back to it for a while now.
And what I hear underneath so many of those conversations is the same question: I know what I feel called to do. But is it actually worth anything?
This week I want to answer that. Because knowing your direction and knowing what your voice is truly worth -- those are two different things.
"The more AI enhances, the more we should raise and develop and show our humanity." -- Valérie Demont
Valérie Demont said this on a recent episode of Loving the Journey -- after eight years of podcasting in two languages, she had spent a long stretch trying to show up as the polished, professional version of herself. Until she stopped.
I have seen that same thing happen more times than I can count.
Here is what I want you to understand, especially right now.
What you have built -- your podcast, your book, your body of content, the frameworks you have developed over years of doing this work -- is not just content. It is a proprietary, irreplaceable library. Your language. Your lived perspective. Your specific way of seeing the world that no one else can reproduce.
That is your real asset.
Not your posting frequency. Not your production quality. Not whether you are on every platform. Those things matter, but they are not the asset. You are the asset.
In Your Message Is the Business, I write about this directly: your message is not a marketing layer you put on top of your work. It is the work. It is the thing people come for, stay for, and remember. The moment it stops sounding like you, it stops doing the job it was built to do.
And here is where the world we are living in right now makes this more urgent, not less. The more AI can produce, the more your specific human source material becomes the differentiator. When intelligent systems are trained on genuinely human content -- your voice, your thinking patterns, your signature way of explaining something -- the output is not imitation. It is amplification. But only if the source material is authentically yours.
You start watching what works for others. You soften the edges of your message. You write toward what you think the market wants to hear rather than what you actually know from lived experience. You perform a slightly cleaner, slightly safer version of yourself.
And the audience feels it. Not loudly. They just quietly stop leaning in.
As a professional performing musician, I lived inside that pressure for years. The pressure to conform, to fit the mold, to perform the expected version of yourself is enormous. Building a platform in my own voice after that -- knowing the people I had performed alongside could see it -- was not easy. I understood what it cost to step out from behind the mask.
But I also learned this: people do not connect with your polish. They connect with your truth. The credential earns the first listen. The truth earns the relationship.
This is the foundation the Five Tenets in Your Message Is the Business are built on. Your message has to come from your actual experience, your actual perspective, your actual conviction -- or it will never build the kind of trust that converts to influence.
Write down one thing you know to be true about your field that most people in your space do not say out loud. Not a contrarian take for the sake of it. The thing you believe from lived experience that you have been softening or watering down because you were not sure it would land.
That belief -- fully stated, in your voice -- is your asset. Everything else is just a format it has not lived in yet.
Your work matters. Keep making an impact. :-)
